Psychological research shows that people underestimate how much joy a simple thank you will bring to a person. If you were to ask the majority whether to say thank you is polite, almost everyone will agree. But why don't we do it more often? In this blog, we'll look at the benefits of thanking your customers and six ways to do it creatively.

In addition to the personal benefits of saying thank you, there are a few business-related reasons why you should do it. First, customers want to feel valued. If a customer relationship feels like a one-way relationship to them, they will be more likely to go elsewhere. Customers crave engagement from you, and the consequences of not giving that can sometimes be serious.

Additionally, research shows that 86% of customers are willing to pay more for a better customer experience, which is why showing your gratitude on a regular basis can lead to a more positive experience for your customers.

A simple thank you when a customer leaves or enters is of course not what we mean. But how exactly do you thank customers in such a way that it really means something?
Make it personal. This means that you learn something about your customers to remember them and communicate with them in this way. But also, make it real. Use authentic language and not the robot-talk you may be used to. An authentic and more natural conversation with a customer is likely to linger longer than an automated conversation that you can have with any person.

Now that you understand why it is important to thank your customers, we have listed five creative ways to do this:

  1. Write a handwritten thank-you note
Especially in today's digital world, a handwritten note can really add value to the customer's experience. In any case, a handwritten card will win a thank you email.

  1. Refer customers
This certainly works well in a B2B area. B2B companies should make every effort to say thank you by sending business to their customers. Look for opportunities to refer them to other customers or link them to your network.

  1. Celebrate customer relationship anniversaries
Have you been working together for a year? Then send a small gift card for a coffee. Does your customer expect a baby? Then send a cute little onesie. Celebrating an anniversary is one of the easiest and most fun ways to say thank you to your customer. Doing something special for your customer also makes the customer experience more memorable.

  1. Send them company items
One way to make sure your customers feel valued is to send a little company swag. Not only is receiving a small free gift always good, but it is also a way for you to promote your brand. Think of small gestures such as a badge or stickers.

  1. Design and add videos in your customer communication
A very simple and convenient way to communicate personally to your customer is via a video. This does not have to be a long video at all, a short video in which you show your appreciation, thank you and perhaps mention something nice is more than enough. Send the video via email or share it on social media, it can be that simple!

It's time for you to start thanking your customers. Why? Well simply because your company cannot afford not to. Let your customers know that you appreciate them and that you want to thank them for that. Make it personal and real and that will certainly ensure that it has positive effects for your company.
